So, today is my 52nd birthday, and as I’m typing this at 12:30am, I’m enjoying it already! I thankful for many things but I’m really happy to be doing 1977 and having so much fun doing it that I’ll stay up to 12:30am even though I have to get up at 5:30 with my youngest son. I’m also thankful to have a great readership as you guys & gals joining me in on the fun. It’s not the same without you. I’ve always said I’ll do the comic as long as it makes me laugh. Even now at this late hour, I chuckle at my characters. I don’t see that changing any time soon…
The song title is from 1970 and a little known group called Crow. The full song title is “Evil Woman (Don’t Pull Your Games On Me) and is a great early 70s pop-rocker. Fitting that Bud thinks he’s “evil” by being left-handed. Good for Jeff too! Also, there are many, many “Evil Woman” songs out there, the ones I know of are by Black Sabbath, Doobie Brothers and Electric Light Orchestra. What a range!
(I should point out that the Black Sabbath version, which was originally on the UK version of their 1st album & not in the USA is a COVER of the Crow song. Yes, Black Sabbath covered the Crow tune. The Sabbath version didn’t really come to the USA until some time later which is why I was not familiar with it at first)

Nice to see you run with Bud’s lefty punch. However, I’m with Jeff that just because you’re a lefty doesn’t mean your evil……. Even if the nuns did try to get me to write with my right hand during the time I was in Catholic elementary school……. Didn’t work. 😛

RE: vince – Yeah, I was thinking about it Sunday as I drew the comic for Monday. Then it was mentioned in the comments and I thought it might be a good way to bring out that Bud is superstitious and that quiet Jeff actually has a brain too (he’s been seen reading a number of “heady” books in the comic thus far).
I never attended a Catholic school, but knew my share of Nuns and, man, were they quick with those damn wooden rulers. They were like Jedi Knights deflecting blaster shots…. you could not escape their wrath. So, I feel for you!

(shudders) I spent WAY too many nights in public bathrooms of bars back in the late 70s. I haven’t brought that out in Bud yet, but sooner or later Bud will end up there. Thank you for the poem, that is quite creative. Is that something you wrote or is it from the internet somewhere? I’d love to use that in a comic someday…

Fun fact: ‘blonde’ is the only adjective in the English language that has a masculine form and a feminine form. ‘Blonde’ is the feminine; ‘blond’ is the masculine. Jeff’s calling himself a girl in this strip.

Actually, the Modern English word “left” comes not from a Latin source but from the Old English word “left”, which carried meanings of “idle”, “weak”, and “useless”.
It’s the modern English word “sinister” that comes from the Latin word “sinister”, meaning “(on the) left”. The word carried strong negative connotations in Greek augury because the Greek augur faced north, having the East on his right, but also carried strong positive connotations in Roman augury because the Roman augur faced south, having the East on his left. When English loaned the word, only the negative connotations remained.
You just taught an old dog a new lesson it seems. I get most of my information from various sources on the web and, one, they cannot always be relied on as being 100% correct, and two, my interpretation of the facts leave something to be desired often.
