I have been working diligently on the Christmas post for next Friday. It will be a fun desktop to have and behold during the holiday season. I wanted to put out an extra effort on the Christmas desktop this year as in many ways 2010 has been a good year and been a bad year and the desktop reflects that in 1977 style. You should enjoy it… I demand it!
I spent two years living in Watterson Towers in 422 Monroe. Every 5 levels got a new name and I was on the 10th floor or something like that. The laundry area was a top the dorm and provided a nice view at night. I sometimes did my laundry in the middle of the night as no one was up there at that time. You can sit in your underwear until your jeans were dry that way (the inspiration for the very 2nd comic of 1977 where Bud meets Jeff in a laundromat with no pants on). The garbage chutes ran the entire 28 floors and we loved tossing big, heavy items down the chute to hear it bounce against the metal chute until it hit the bottom. Do NOT stick your head into the chute as items from ABOVE will hit you (I speak from experience).
Watterson was a coveted place to be at ISU as it was a newer dorm and had larger rooms, plus it was co-ed and the girls were right-over-there and we had some fun with that too. You will see more Watterson shenanigans with Jeff here shortly.

Yeah, I’ve learned to never insult the driver, at least not until you’ve reached your destination. I can find a way home from a bar, but not from a highway, for sure!

It is ironic I lived in a tower that carries the same name as one of the comic strip cartoon greats. The name didn’t wear off on my as you can tell…

Thank you very much! I should know better than to compare my art to others, especially Watterson. But luckily I’m not crazy like him… if a syndicate wanted to give a ton of money to merchandise my comic… um, DONE! Then I would be drawing from a beach house in Hawaii, thank you very much.

Indeed. From 1974 to 1987, no speed limits in the USA exceeded 55mph. But, I couldn’t help myself and did that anyway as I remember the speed limits being higher as a young boy. Besides, no one *drove* 55mph anyway. Didn’t you see “Smokey and the Bandit”?
I was lucky to be in the only Freshman coed dorm AND it had A/C.
So presumably Jeff will stick out his thumb and get a lift from one – or several – of those generously oversupplied co-eds, and then…muhahahahaha…
