Sep11
A brief pause as I remember those people, both civilian and civic, who perished in the tragic events of September 11th, 2001.
There’s a blog post around here somewhere which chronicles my experiences of that fateful day. It is one most of us will not forget. But as we mark this 9th anniversary of 9/11, I look to my country to rebuild itself to its former glory. And we can only do it by working together.
With that thought in mind, here’s a little Canned Heat for your Saturday.

11th September 2001: the day before the day America took most of the fun out of the world :-S
Nice sketch of Jeff though…
Thank you, TAFKAN. Very well put. I’ve been nearly lynched by my countrymen on several occasions for speaking the truth so plainly. Hopefully the day will come when the freedom to speak the truth will no longer endanger the lives of those so perceptive as to see it.
First I was abandoned by and thrown out of my country for refusing to goose step & Seig Heil to the madness, then I was thrown out of the EU for having been born in that country. Nothing terrifies me more than what America has become. I am an expat in my own land, hysteria and ignorant hatred at every hand.
~nods~ It’s certainly not that I’m completely unmoved by the deaths that occurred in that incident – FFS we *knew* one of the first people to die in the first WTC impact itself (his mum lives next door to one of my brothers). It’s not that I think for a moment that the USA ‘deserved’ it – yes, there were no good guys amongst the players, but there were definitely many innocent victims. But the reactions of the American government, and the rabid, mindless knee-jerk hatred disguised as ‘patriotism’ that was whipped up across the American populace, were and are nothing short of repulsive. And because the USA is such a vast and politically powerful country, all the rest of us in the developed world suffered the knock-on effect of American paranoia and American security-theatre laws and policies in its wake.
As a friend of mine put it, ‘A bee flew in America’s window and stung someone, so now they don’t want anyone in the world to have windows.’
I have an especially personal hatred for terrorism of *any* stripe. I think the creatures, anywhere, who deliberately set out to murder noncombatant innocents in the name of whatever their cause is are lower than pond scum. But that is not – and never, ever should be – an excuse for governments to withdraw vast swathes of long-standing personal liberties from the public at large…especially as it DOES NOT CATCH THE BAD GUYS. All it does is darken the lives of ordinary people and foster a climate of free-floating fear.
Grrr arrgh.
Ignorance has taken control of our airwaves. Republicans and Democrats are running around like little children pointing fingers at each other saying “You caused this mess!” “No *you* caused this mess!” When in fact it was all of us for *allowing* it to happen. Money has corrupted our nation and in the name of “Freedom” many folks have been made to suffer.
Terrorism will not go away. If we use common sense (which our country seems to have forgotten completely) then we can help defeat most terrorism. But, like that bully in 3rd grade, they will sneak up and sucker punch when you aren’t looking.
We can over come this together, and that is my message. We need to stand up for our rights before they are taken away from us by some lunatics with a huge bank roll that gets them elected into office.
I’m normally not an outspoken political type, but I know common sense has lost it’s way here and we just need to wake up and do what’s right.
We can, as we have before. Soap box put away. Enjoy the day!
I’m afraid the lunatics with their bankrolls have already won. So…all together now…”LET’S GO GET STOOOOONED!!!”
Right on, man!
RE: 3Xp4t
This fear you are talking about is how both sides of the political system is ruining our country.
The electoral college was put into place so that a bunch of lunatics couldn’t run up a silly candidate (Palin) and get them elected. The college was to prevent that sort of thing and they were to apply *common sense* and assure the proper *qualified* candidate was put into office
We Americans have forgotten this. If we just stop, take a breath and apply good ol’ “hey, that ain’t right” to our ways, we’ll be back on track again.
I for one do not want to see anyone pushed out of our great country who wishes to be here and participate in our system of freedom. That was the foundation of this country. To put up “safeguards” or fences to keep people out merely keeps us in to wallow in our own hate and distrust.
I’ve opened a can of worms here. 1977 is meant to be a reflection of our society today… how things have really not changed in 30 years… how the struggles are the same. The styles are certainly different, but the core issues have not changed.
We’ll return to the fun on Monday!
Good man, Byron.
Thanks! Just doin’ my part…
Why do I hear Jimi Hendrix’s Woodstock rendition of the “Star-Spangled Banner” when I look at that drawing?
Hot damn, you’re good… seriously, that was my first choice and it did inspire the pose for Jeff and the sunrise. See, I went all political instead of just going with my original idea of a simple tribute post.
They always say to go with your first instincts…
I went to a demolition derby yesterday and there was a fire truck 911 thing. It won for look contest or whatever. I’m glad that people still take pride in our country and the people who tried to help out during 9 11.
Bingo… that was my point. As I said, I’m not overly political, but I certainly have faith in my country to be able to turn itself around.
And Demolition Derbies rock! Talk about taking your anger out on stuff…
Ughhh. i feel un-american. i didn’t honestly celebrate 9/11 like i needed to. damned school events.
oh well, but off topic, are you gonna finish this and make it a wallpaper? PLEASE?
Hey, we all do what we do… doesn’t my you un-Amercian, you just did your own thing… and that TOO is what America is all about. So, don’t sweat it, man.
A desktop, eh? Okay, see what I can do!
