I’m with Bud, you don’t have to ask me twice when a hot blonde in a bikini asks me to join her by the pool (I’m still waiting…). Oh, 1965 was a great year for rock music, but the king of all singles was the Beach Boys’ “California Girls” Going through many, many different recording sessions and editing, the final version ended up being the most expensive single ever released at that time. They made their money back, by the way.

The gimmick in today’s third panel is a tried and true cartoon standard… one that I love. But it seems that Ms. Dawn Griffin, of the “Zorphbert & Fred” webcomic, seemed to love a version of that comic effect too. Check the final panel of her comic from yesterday. Seems one or the other of us was channeling Chuck Jones and we ended up with similar, but different, endings to our comic strips. I love when stuff like this happens… kinda cosmic… like when two different radio stations play the same song at nearly the same time. Wow, man…

It’s a great far out comic, but we are really getting spanked over at TopWebComics, at a rank of 532 (now at 495 due to MY single vote). Any’all that’r fans, get over to http://topwebcomics.com, do a search for 1977 and vote for this comic. Ahem, “B”, why not put up a button to your own comic over there? I much prefer seeing your comic in a ranking that meant something “back in the day”, like 289, 302, 318, 327, 340…see where I’m going with this?
Okay, on second thought, I just did a push over at Facebook and on Twitter. I’ll do it for this week and see what happens. If we break into the Top 100, I’ll do a special comic. How’s that for motivation?

I have similar quandaries with many of the comics that I vote from, you’re not alone. If the fans would just get out and vote…it’s no more than 3 clicks away!

There are Vote buttons on the bottom of the home page, but I have never really stressed them as I am not convinced they really do that much for bringing in new traffic. That’s just my opinion and it’s based on my stats. Also, to get into the Top 100 over there, one needs a lot of votes and I’d rather my readers (who are already here) enjoy reading and commenting on the comic.
I did push folks to vote for a competition that 1977 was in a couple months back and we won first place, which earned me another interview (and some guest hosting spots) on TGT Webcomics podcast. So, when 1977′s readers are motivated, then they step up.
It’s really ME you have to motivate, as I’m not that hung up on 1977′s “rank” on those sites. As you know, I’m from the 70s and I have a “whatever” attitude toward competition and awards and such. That’s just me.
But, that said, by clicking on those buttons on the home page, you do move the comic up in that site’s ranking and potentially bring in new readers. Some you have to “confirm” your vote and it takes a couple more clicks, so it’s not too bad. So, it’s a free world… click away if you’re so motivated.
And last of all, THANK YOU for being a reader and being motivated to vote for the comic. I do appreciate it very much, despite my 70s laid-back attitude.

I have some really fond memories of some older ladies back in my day (they’re probably dead now… just kidding…). I forget which comedienne tells this joke, but she stated she likes younger men in bed because “they don’t know what they’re doing, but they can do it all night!” I had to laugh on that one for sure!
I know what you mean, old to me back then was “nearly 30.” Today, I could be a 30 year old’s father. Ugh. Time.
